Horse people are an interesting group. And the Horse namers of the group are even more interesting.
Lately I've been going through quite a bit of "Horse Info" (my boss is a Horse person) and I can't believe how many strange names there are. Looking at the list you have to wonder, "who are these crazy people?". I think the strangest part about it is that Horse people don't seem to think so. They'll go around jabbering about Chunky's Shortcake as if it were named Queen Elizabeth.
Chunky's Shortcake people. Can you imagine a dog going around with a name like that?
Here's a few others: Bunny Glow Bars, Disco Wonder, Knight's Sugar Lady, and my own personal favorite Ms. Spicey Scat.
You can't help but feel a little sorry for the poor things.

ReplyDeleteMy husband comes from a horse family. Their top racer, "Striking Distance" once brought home 100K from a competition. I asked them what's up with the psycho names (they took slight offense to that) - they said it's cuz no registered horse can have the same name as another registered horse. So... with millions of horses on registry, you can understand why they have to get creative
Actually...(having been a crazy horse person myself)a lot of horse names get so crazy because they are trying to combine the names of the stud and mare (dad and mom)...so they could have two normal names like "shining star" and "chocolate brownie" and all the sudden you have "shining brownie"...so you can see how the names could get weird pretty fast doing that.
